Oh, Alice Chapter 24: Windows and Broken Glass

`Now tell me, Pat, what's that in the window?'

`Sure, it's an arm, yer honour!' (He pronounced it `arrum.')

`An arm, you goose! Who ever saw one that size? Why, it fills the whole window!'

`Sure, it does, yer honour: but it's an arm for all that.'

`Well, it's got no business there, at any rate: go and take it away!'

There was a long silence after this, and Alice could only hear whispers now and then; such as, `Sure, I don't like it, yer honour, at all, at all!' `Do as I tell you, you coward!' and at last she spread out her hand again, and made another snatch in the air. This time there were TWO little shrieks, and more sounds of broken glass. `What a number of cucumber-frames there must be!' thought Alice. `I wonder what they'll do next! As for pulling me out of the window, I only wish they COULD! I'm sure I don't want to stay in here any longer!'

Hello friends...it's CRYSTAL CLEAR that today you're all joining us for a fabulous challenge here at Oh, Alice! We have all sorts of lovely techniques for you to try today!

Your mission today with Oh, Alice, should you choose to accept it, is to try a technique using cracked glass, crystal effects (or glossy accents), or a window stamp/technique. There are TONS of possibilities with today's challenge and we are SO ready to see all of the fabulous creations you enter!

This project has been to the brink of disaster and back.  When I spotted this glass bottle at a junk market I thought it looked just like the "Drink Me" bottle from the book.  I thought filling it with tinted epoxy would give it a cool potion look.  So off to the craft store I went.  I followed the instructions to the letter.  I sealed my image with modge podge and put it into the bottle.  Then mixed the epoxy per the instructions and filled the bottle.  I added a few drops of Adirondack Meadow alcohol ink to tint the epoxy a creepy green.  Then I dropped in a few watch parts and small keys.  Once it was set the image was covered with bubbles and I had some big bubbles in the bottom.  The one thing that I think made the difference was that it was inside a bottle with a small neck.  Maybe the epoxy couldn't breath to release the bubbles like it should.  So there I was with a mess of a project.  Now to repair this disaster.  I scuffed the edges of the image of Alice  (from Graphic 45 Halloween in Wonderland Jabberwocky) with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tea Dye then covered it with modge podge and attached it to the bottle.  The modge podge and distressing the image gave it that old label look.  I embossed the tag with the Clockworks embossing folder then distressed it with Black Soot and Tea Dye ink.  The sticker letters are from Making Memories as is the metal charm.  I added a band of maroon velvet and rope to the neck then tied the tag with some black lace.  There are no mistakes just opportunities to embellish.

Be sure to upload your card or creation using InLinkz at Oh, Alice!  Have fun and we'll see you back next week! If you are uploading to a public gallery, be sure to include keyword OAC24.

Oh, Alice Chapter 23: Ravens and Writing Desks...

The Hatter opened his eyes very wide on hearing this; but all he said was, "Why is a raven like a writing-desk?"
"Come, we shall have some fun now!" thought Alice. "I'm glad they've begun asking riddles. — I believe I can guess that," she added aloud.
"Do you mean that you think you can find out the answer to it?" said the March Hare.
"Exactly so," said Alice.
"Then you should say what you mean," the March Hare went on.
"I do," Alice hastily replied; "at least--at least I mean what I say--that's the same thing, you know."

Hello everyone!

We are ready to FLY with this week's challenge here at Oh, Alice!

This week, we challenge you to use BIRDS on your card or papercrafting project! We may never know the answer to the riddle above, but while we're pondering that and life's little mysteries we may as well make a great card or two in the process, right?
When I first saw that this weeks challenge was birds I thought hey, no biggie.  Then I started searching for bird stamps.  I was shocked at how few I have, and they all were tiny little birds.  I looked for bird chipboard, no go.  I did find this fun Scenic Route designer paper.  It set the color theme for me.  I finally decided to do what I do and combine a few challenges to rev up my mojo.  Speaking of mojo, the sketch I used is from an old Mojo Mondays challenge #101 (Thanks Mercy for the inspiration).  I went with one of my newest stamps in my stash, Art Is The Window.  This is a super cute set from There She Goes.  There challenge this week is to use chipboard and polka dots.  The designer paper already had great polka dots, so I knew it was meant to be.  The chipboard is the circle that the polka dot dp is attached to.  And a bird card is hatched.

Uff da Palace at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

We spent our Sunday at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  If your close to the Twin Cities you should check it out.  A unbelievable sculpture by Patrick Dougherty is on display.   It should be very interesting to see it covered in snow this winter.  You can find out more here.  Money saving tip:  If you live close check with your local library.  Many have Arboretum passes you can check out.
We also enjoyed the hosta garden and Pea loved the maze.

Oh, Alice Chapter 22: Dancing under the Sea...

"Will you walk a little faster?" said the whiting to the snail;

"There's a porpoise right behind us and he's treading on my tail!
See how eagerly the lobsters and the turtles all advance!

They are waiting on the shingle, will you come and join the dance?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you-WILL you join the dance?"
Hello everyone! Greetings from here in Wonderland...or maybe today it's UNDERland? As in Under the Sea, perhaps ;)

So, today's challenge involves all things sea-worthy and we at Oh, Alice are challenging YOU to create a card or project using sea life! Turtles, whales, dolphins are fabulous as are other sea creatures as in merfolk and those deep, dark creatures you sometimes hear about but seldom see.... the possibilities are as endless as the ocean itself!

We also have a FUN prize for you this week! One lucky winner will receive a Sweet Pea Rubber Stamp courtesy of Oh, Alice! These stamps are large and BEAUTIFULLY detailed and we just happened to have one 'swimmin' around!' Will YOU be the lucky winner? ;)

So here is my card.  Thanks to my wonderful team mate Jen for sending me the image.  I have a few Sweet Pea Alice stamps but nothing that fit the under the sea theme.  Thanks to Jen and her speedy mailing I got to work with Pirate Treasure Mermaid.  The sketch is from Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge #82.  I thought this designer paper had an aquatic feel with the swirls and bubbles.  I made the flower from cutting different sized circles out of organza and holding the edges up to a flame to melt.  Then I added the shell center.  It kind of has a oyster feel.  Like always I used my Copic markers and a little Sakura Gelly Roll Pen.  I started to color the pearls with glaze pen but didn't like it and changed to liquid pearls with a paint brush.  You can see my flub in the close-up.  What you can't see in the pictures is the the swirls in the DP are iridescent and the organza I made the flower with has little crystals scattered over it.

It's A Hot One

Is everyone having a hot summer?  It was a warm one today, which usually means it will storm here tomorrow.  We took Pea up to the park tonight to practice riding her bike on the flat basketball court.  Our driveway is on a hill so it's up to the park we go.  She got a hang of it rather quickly once on a flat surface.  Now to build some leg strength and learn not to look down and watch the ground.
My hubby got back from his Alaska Guycation in one piece.  Guess what he brought me?  About 6 loads of laundry.  Isn't that thoughtful of him?  Now I'm trying to get everyone back into the old routine.  I did get into my craft room for a little bit tonight and made this:

Oh, Alice Chapter 21: Breaking All the Rules...

"At this moment the King, who had been for some time busily writing in his note-book, cackled out `Silence!' and read out from his book, `Rule Forty-two. ALL PERSONS MORE THAN A MILE HIGH TO LEAVE THE COURT.'

Everybody looked at Alice.

`I'M not a mile high,' said Alice.

`You are,' said the King.

`Nearly two miles high,' added the Queen.

`Well, I shan't go, at any rate,' said Alice: `besides, that's not a regular rule: you invented it just now.'

`It's the oldest rule in the book,' said the King.

`Then it ought to be Number One,' said Alice. "

Hello everyone!

Today we have a fun and rather rebellious challenge for all of you out there in WONDERLAND! We start out with a lovely sketch by Sammi:

The catch? You must RE-CREATE this sketch somehow. Switch out a panel or two, flip on its side, upside down, etc. There are no rules except to break them, meaning you can't follow the sketch exactly! Makes no sense right? GOOD. :)

Today we also are thrilled to announce another wonderful sponsorship from SPESCH DESIGNER STAMPS! Thank you so much to Tracey Feeger for allowing the DT to work with your adorable images! Tracey is offering a prize of a VERY generous $10 Gift Certificate to the Spesch Designer Stamps Store! Be sure to check out all of her cute designs and be sure to play along this week for your chance to WIN!

Go ahead...BREAK all the rules...you KNOW you want to!

When I saw this cute little strawberry fairy I had to have her.  She has tiny little wings that I covered with liquid pearls.  Then I thought this would also be perfect for the Flutter by Wednesday Challenge this week.  I also sprayed my image with Glimmer Mist Marshmallow to give it some sparkle.  Make sure you check out the rest of the tea party's great work (links in my sidebar).
Stamp:  Spesch
Copic:  E50, E51, E93, YR20, YR21, YR23, YG63, YG67, G40, G82, RV02. RV04, RV06, RV10, RV11, RV21
Doodlebug boutique brads, icons, @ fancyfrills - strawberry parfait
glimmer mist:  marshmallow
liquid pearls:  white opal

You have until Friday, July 16th at 8pm CST to enter to win! Good luck and be sure to link your creation below! Ta-ta for now all you rebels out there!

Oh, Alice Chapter 20: In MY Country

"Well, in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, "you'd generally get to somewhere else -- if you ran very fast for a long time, as we've been doing."

"A slow sort of country!" said the Queen. "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"

(Through the Looking Glass, Chapter 2)

Hello, friends! Can you believe July is here already? Such a fun time of year for summer fun...parades, BBQ's, you name it...it's THAT time of year!

To honor our country's Independence day, with the 4th being right around the corner, we have a PATRIOTIC theme for you today! WONDERLAND has gone red, white, and blue! Yep, that's right!

Call it inspiration, a color challenge....I guess it's really both! Your mission this week is to use RED, WHITE and BLUE on your card or project! In addition we have a WONDERFUL Sponsorship opportunity today. Thank you SO much to EMILY from EAD Designs! Emily has graciously offered the DT some wonderful Alice-themed stickers to use for our projects today (unfortunately our international friends didn't get theirs in time, but hopefully we'll have stuff to show you soon!).

ONE LUCKY WINNER will receive a WONDERFULLY GENEROUS gift certificate to the EAD Designs Store! Just get your red, white and blue on and ENTER your card at Oh Alice to win!

Before we get to this week's challenge, we have a few FUN announcements to make! Sadly we say goodbye to Jimmi this week. We thank her for all her wonderfully twisty designs and will miss her at the tea table here. We are THRILLED to announce at the same time, that Lynne Phelps has accepted a FULL TIME position here right at our twisted table. Lynne's designs TOTALLY WOW'd us as our June Guest Designer and well, some things are JUST SO Alice that they're meant to be! WELCOME LYNNE!

Also, as today is the first challenge of July, a BIG TWISTY welcome to EMMA EADS, our JULY GUEST! We are very excited to have her on board with us for the month of July. Be sure to stop by her BLOG and give her a shout out!

I've been having lots of fun with my red, white, and blue designer paper this week. You can't see it in the picture but the flower DP is embossed with sparkle. The EAD stickers are a vellum type of sticker so it's see through. I put it on white card stock and cut it out so it would pop against the red circle. The sketch I used is from Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge #80.

Sticker: EAD Designs
DP: DCWV Summer Dream
CS: Real Red, Brocade Blue, Night of Navy
Nesties: Standard Circles LG, Classic Scallop Circle SM
