Oh, Alice Chapter 28: Child of the Pure Unclouded Brow...

CHAPTER 28: (taken from "Child of the Pure Unclouded Brow: preface to "Through the Looking Glass"

Child of the pure unclouded brow
And dreaming eyes of wonder!
Though time be fleet, and I and thou
Are half a life asunder,
Thy loving smile will surely hail
The love-gift of a fairy-tale.

I have not seen thy sunny face,
Nor heard thy silver laughter;
No thought of me shall find a place
In thy young life's hereafter -
Enough that now thou wilt not fail
To listen to my fairy-tale.

Hello everyone! We are celebrating the wonder of childhood today here at Oh, Alice and are thrilled to announce this week's sponsor, Paper Pretties Stamps! Are you all familiar with Paper Pretties? If you're new to them, check out their darling images! If it's been a while, Paper Pretties is PROUD to announce that they're under NEW ownership and is pleased to offer you faster, cheaper shipping, WAY more reliable service, and lots of new items in the store. We are thrilled to congratulate Heather Lee-Reppen on her new endeavor and are honored to have her sponsorship this week!

Paper Pretties is offering a Prize package of rubber stamps this week to ONE lucky winner!

Before we get to this week's theme, a bittersweet Goodbye is in order to our FABULOUS August Guest, Stephanie Jones as well as two of our full time twisted sisters, Kim and Kristy. We are SO sad to see you all go and THANK YOU-ALL of you for such a wonderfully twisted time! HUGS!!!!

This week's theme is simply to make a card with a LITTLE GIRL theme:) Alice is such a whimsical free spirit and we LOVE that about her! Channel your inner girlie this week with this great (and free-to-be-you!) challenge!

This week I worked with this little cutie, Sophia Ballerina.  The sketch I used is from The Pink Elephant TPE81.  I'm not totally happy with how it turned out.  The problem is the scale of the whole thing.  I should have made my image smaller because my designer paper has such a large print on it.  The image on the DP (Art Warehouse Dance) is a pink sketch of a ballerina. I used it inside my card too, so at least you can see it there.   I used Copics to color the image, loving the way the skirt came out.

Thanks again to Paper Pretties for this great prize and for letting the DT play, too! You have until FRIDAY, September 3rd at 8pm CST to play along this week for the prize! Winner will be announced next week here on the blog!

Enjoy being young at heart and we'll see you soon back in WONDERLAND!

A Little Love Note

1)  Colour Q

4)  Flutterby Wednesday - butterfly, fairy or angel

I didn't have any DP with this color combo, so I made my own.  I tried to make the couple look like me and my hubby.  Hubby wouldn't like the red hat, but he wouldn't notice it was us anyway.

There She Goes ATC Challenge

This weeks challenge at There She Goes is to make an ATC.  Well that's right up my alley.  I just happened to have just made one using there stamps.

I colored the inside of my washer with Copic then covered it in glossy accent. I paper pieced the sock with this super cute Cosmo Cricket paper and clipped it with mini library clips from Stampin Up.

Cookbook Bookmark

Update:  Happy Day!   I won the There She Goes Challenge with this bookmark!  See it here.

I spent my Saturday in my craft room.  Not the fun way that your think though.  I was reorganizing and trying to make more space.  Which now has spread into the guest bedroom and guest bedroom closet.  I started around noon and didn't stop until 10:00.  It's still very crowded but you can walk across it without practicing your best ballet moves.  Found some more stuff that I can get rid of.  I may list some stamps on my blog for sale.  I really could use some Scrapfest funds.  Plus (the same weekend of course) is Junk Bonanza, which is the coolest junk market ever.  It's once a year and in the next town from me.  There are some advantages to living by the big city.  I always find some great vintage ephemera, plus much more.  I did get to the 2 local junk markets on Thursday.  I wish they were more often than once a month.  I found another cool metal parts drawer which brings me back to the organizing the room.  I had to find a spot for my new finds which led to the 10 hour room overhaul.

I did get in a fast bookmark today.  This is for 4 challenges:
1)  There She Goes - Bookmarks
2)  Colour Q -

3) Flutter by Wednesday - 1 sparkle, 2 designer papers, 3 buttons or gems
4)  Pink Elephant - Ribbon & Sparkles

I made a cookbook bookmark.  My cookbooks are always covered in those little post it flags, so I thought the ribbon reminded me on them.  I used some dazzling diamonds on the pie crust to give it a little sparkle, and paper pieced the pie plate.  The little butterfly rest on my pie is a SU sizzlets die.
Stamps:  TSG Art Is The Window, sentiment:  A Muse

CHAPTER 27: Prizes for Dodo...

CHAPTER 27: Prizes for Dodo...

"This question the Dodo could not answer without a great deal of thought, and it sat for a long time with one finger pressed upon its forehead (the position in which you usually see Shakespeare, in the pictures of him), while the rest waited in silence. At last the Dodo said, `EVERYBODY has won, and all must have prizes.'

`But who is to give the prizes?' quite a chorus of voices asked.
`Why, SHE, of course,' said the Dodo, pointing to Alice with one finger; and the whole party at once crowded round her, calling out in a confused way, `Prizes! Prizes!'

Alice had no idea what to do, and in despair she put her hand in her pocket, and pulled out a box of comfits, (luckily the salt water had not got into it), and handed them round as prizes. There was exactly one a-piece all round. `But she must have a prize herself, you know,' said the Mouse.

`Of course,' the Dodo replied very gravely. `What else have you got in your pocket?' he went on, turning to Alice..."

Hello all!

We are so excited about today's inspiration piece, which just so happens to feature Alice and the lovable Dodo she encounters along her adventures in Wonderland. We'll even spare Dodo the croquet game today...less headache! ;)

The Mad Hatter herself is VERY fond of Tarina Tarantino jewelry and is lucky enough to own a VERY fun ring that she scored while in Disneyworld last time. Check out the fabulous Queen Alice ring HERE.

For today's challenge, we are all gaga over this beautiful piece:

Your mission today is to create SPARKLY FABULOUSNESS (yes, include some BLING, please!) as inspired by the above photo.

For my card this week I used Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge #87. This is also my entry for The Pink Elephat #80 Challenge to use ribbon and sparkles.  I was inspired by the flamingo pendant to use this Stampin Up designer paper.  My dash of bling is in the sparkle ribbon, the yellow gems, and a bit of clear Spica on the Drink Me bottle.  Make sure to go to Oh, Alice and check out the rest of the design teams sparkly fabulous creations.

My First Altered Art Book

If you have been wondering why no cards all week, here is why.  My friend turned 40 yesterday and I have been working on my first altered art book for her gift.  These take some time to make so all my cards have been put on hold.  Now that she has opened it I can show you the pictures.  First you need the story behind why I picked this book.  We got her Wicked tickets for her gift so that's why all the Wizard of Oz.  I wrote a funny fairy tale about her in the book but I blurred it out to protect the innocent.

A little help from my friends

I need some help.  My husbands cousin is taking her final vows to become a nun and I need a card.  What is an appropriate sentiment for such an event?  Anyone know of any free digi's that would work?  I'm completely lost on this one.  I'm not Catholic so I asked my mother-in-law, but she was having the same trouble.  Did Emily Post write any does and don'ts for the occasion?  Hubby said to make an Anya look like a nun.  I'm not sure I'm that good at altering yet.

Those Darn Scrapbook Pages

I promised myself to get back to my scrapbooking that is way behind.  Well here is my first attempt.

Not so great are they.  My brain is so wired for cards that it's hard to go back to this big 12 X 12 area.  I just sit and stare at the pages.  So do you have any advise for me?  What should I do to help these poor sad pages?

Now for some random bitching and moaning.  I just received my daughters school supply list in the mail on Saturday.  Last year all they ask for was some snack time supplies like plates and crackers.  This year I got a LIST.  Now my daughter is in Pre-school.  That means she is there 8 hours a week.  Does she really need 8 glue sticks.  I get the ream of paper, but a ream of cardstock per child.  Come on now, my kid is not using a ream of cardstock.  Who exactly am I supplying with cardstock here?  And the brand specific items.  It must be an 8 oz bottle of ELMER'S GLUE!  Well you what, I got 2 - 4oz. bottles for .25 each, instead of the $1.54 for the 8 oz. bottle.  Does it really matter what brand of glue or paint it is.  They are in pre-school, I'm sure any glue will work for googly eyes and glitter.  They aren't building an ark to sail across the lake here.  Well it took most of the day Sunday but I got everything on the list.  5 stores (yes 5) and at the last I saw a mother holding the same list looking as frazzled as me.  She saw the cardstock in my hands and let loose.  "Are you a insert pre-school name here mom too?"  she asked.  "Oh, your doing the list too." I said.  "I refuse to buy $6 cardstock, that's crazy." she says.  Then I helped her go down the list and told her what items don't even exists.  Like the 8 count of Pip Squeak Crayola Markers (brand specific again).  THERE IS NO 8 COUNT OF PIP SQUEAK MARKERS, THEY ONLY COME IN A 16 COUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!  They also put the cardstock should be a 500 count ream.  NO SUCH THING!!  By the time I left I needed a fix and stopped at DQ for some raspberry lemonade.  Waited behind a car that had ordered food for the entire Vikings Football Team, finally got to the window, and guess what?  We are all out of raspberries.  AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!  Just forget it, I'm going home!

I feel better now, thanks.

Oh, Alice CHAPTER 26: Sizin' up a Sketch...

CHAPTER 26: Sizin' up a Sketch...

"The Caterpillar was the first to speak.

`What size do you want to be?' it asked.

`Oh, I'm not particular as to size,' Alice hastily replied; `only one doesn't like changing so often, you know.'

`I DON'T know,' said the Caterpillar.

Alice said nothing: she had never been so much contradicted in her life before, and she felt that she was losing her temper.

`Are you content now?' said the Caterpillar.

`Well, I should like to be a LITTLE larger, sir, if you wouldn't mind,' said Alice: `three inches is such a wretched height to be.'

`It is a very good height indeed!' said the Caterpillar angrily, rearing itself upright as it spoke (it was exactly three inches high).

`But I'm not used to it!' pleaded poor Alice in a piteous tone. And she thought of herself, `I wish the creatures wouldn't be so easily offended!'

`You'll get used to it in time,' said the Caterpillar; and it put the hookah into its mouth and began smoking again..."

Hello! How is everyone here in Wonderland today?

We are sizing up a GREAT sketch by JEN and the main panel just HAPPENS to be THREE. INCHES. TALL. :) Now, of course you don't have to stick to this if your image won't fit, but we didn't want to anger Mr. Caterpillar by saying that Three inches wasn't a respectable height, so here's the sketch:

I decided to make a gift card set since I was already making 3 X 3 cards.  I just love this Reminisce Through the Looking Glass designer paper and had the sticker sheet that matched.  Each card is embossed with a different Cuttlebug folder (clockworks, queen of hearts, keys, and mushrooms) and scuffed with Stampin Up Ballet Blue ink so make the embossing pop.
To make the holder I  found a template of A-2 size cards and cut down the measurements to work for the 3 X 3 size.  The border punch is from EK Success (Card Suits).  Now to find or make some little envelopes.

Check out the samples by our AWESOMELY Twisted team with the links on my side bar or see them all at the Oh, Alice blog.

Some Happy News

A little happy news:  First I was picked for the ColourQ Courtiers again this week.  You can see that here.  Second I won The Greetings Farm Floss It challenge.  You can see that here.  Go me!  I know I've been a bad little blogger the last few days, sorry.  Trying to catch up on a few things around the house.  Plus, I have promised myself to get back to my scrapbooking.  Pea's book is over a year behind now, and I better get on it before I forget what the pictures are of.  Maybe I will start posting my pages so you don't think I fell off the face of the earth.

OK got to go, I just heard my 4 year old tell the 3 year old from next door "Don't tell my Mom."  This can't be good.

How The Other Half Lives

A challenge card a few pictures today.  First with the card. This week There She Goes was having a watercolor challenge.  It was hard to change gears, my mind just goes right to my Copics.  I made a mini card, the simple sketch worked perfect for it.

It was a busy, hot weekend here.  We went to the Uptown Art Fair Saturday morning.  It was a very large fair with vendors from all over.  I saw some beautiful, creative, weird, and strange things.  Here are a few interesting artists:

Bodyscapes by Allan Teger (does contain nudity)
Wagalabagala by Andy Van Schyndle (dark whimsical paintings)
The Saint Victor Diaries by Lynden St. Victor (I think the women in his paintings look like some famous people, see what you think)
Art by Amy (super cool booth and website, more bling than you can shake a stick at)
Today we went for a boat cruise on Lake Minnetonka.  This is where the title of todays post comes in.  These are some mega mansions on the lake.  Most also have a boat house and guest house, can you imagine.

Pea had fun too.

CHAPTER 25: White Rabbit, White Gloves, White Wonderland...

"After a time she heard a little pattering of feet in the distance, and she hastily dried her eyes to see what was coming.

It was the White Rabbit returning, splendidly dressed, with a pair of white kid gloves in one hand and a large fan in the other: he came trotting along in a great hurry, muttering to himself as he came, `Oh! the Duchess, the Duchess! Oh! won't she be savage if I've kept her waiting!'

Alice felt so desperate that she was ready to ask help of any one; so, when the Rabbit came near her, she began, in a low, timid voice, `If you please, sir--' The Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid gloves and the fan, and skurried away into the darkness as hard as he could go..."

~Alices Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 2

Mmmmm Candy

A little yummy for the tummy today.  Sorry for all the short posts lately.  I've been working on a few projects that I promised myself I would work on this summer.  Today was Pea's last day of swimming.  What am I going to do with her in the afternoons for the last month of summer?  I better start looking into swim school.  She decided she would rather do swimming then dance or gymnastics (or sports, thank goodness).
