Pixie Dust Studio Challenge #68 "Fluttering Wings"

This weeks challenge at Pixie Dust Studio is"Fluttering Wings".  Create a card/project featuring butterflies, pixies, bugs, etc. Anything with wings!

The sketch I used is from Card Patterns Sketch 108.  To make the embossed half circle I punched different butterflies out of the green paper and adhered them to the circle.  I then embossed it with the Swiss Dots folder.  The pretty butterfly paper is from Graphic 45's Le Romantique collection.  I didn't have the right color of ribbon so I used my copic markers to color it green.  In the bouquet there are little touches of Smooch in Illuminate for a little sparkle.
I hope you play along with us this week!

Thanks for stopping by!

Remember to link your creation to the challenge blog no later then 6pm (GMT) Wednesday, April 6th!

Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts

I saw this exhibition on the Martha Stewart Show today.  The American Folk Art Museum in New York’s presentation of “Infinite Variety:  Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts.”  is unbelievable and worth a look at.  Go to this link to see the exhibit.  My favorite is the one called Vortex.  The way the quilts are displayed is as visually amazing as the quilts themselves.  I wish I was in New York to see it.

The Altered Alice: Chapter 2 Challenge Week 4 - Hall of Doors

"There was not a moment to be lost: away went Alice like the wind, and was just in time to hear it say, as it turned a corner, `Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!' She was close behind it when she turned the corner, but the Rabbit was no longer to be seen: she found herself in a long, low hall, which was lit up by a row of lamps hanging from the roof.

There were doors all round the hall, but they were all locked; and when Alice had been all the way down one side and up the other, trying every door, she walked sadly down the middle, wondering how she was ever to get out again."

-- Chapter 1, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

The challenge is to use a door or doors, and preferably for the door or doors to open and close so we can see what lays beyond! While it is not required that your project include Alice in Wonderland, we do encourage it. If your project does feature Wonderland you will get two chances in the prize drawing instead of one!

I am thrilled to announce that The Octopode Factory, the slightly mad brainchild of 17 year old artist Lily Chilvers, is our March sponsor! We are celebrating because Lily has moved into the world of rubber! That's right - RUBBER STAMPS! The Octopode Factory will have both digital stamps AND rubber stamps on some of her most popular images, which includes most of her AMAZING Alice in Wonderland artwork!. Read about the new range of Octopode Factory rubber stamps and how to order.

Lily started with her quirky digital images, and she has gifted the design team members with some of her wonderful Wonderland digital sets. Most of the digital images we will be using are those that are now available in rubber, One lucky winner will win a $30 gift certificate for digital images from The Octopode Factory's Etsy store! Enter at The Altered Alice by Friday, March 25 at 8 p.m. Eastern time (GMT -5:00) and a winner will be announced on Sunday, March 27. Show us your DOORS!

DeNami Sketch Challenge #07

This little card is for the DeNami sketch challenge.

Here is the sketch.
...and here is my card.
I colored with color pencil and used October Afternoon Farm Fresh paper.  The pig and farmer chick are popped up.

We're Off To See The Wizard

The theme for my ATC club this month is nursery rhymes and fairy tales.  Wizard of Oz may not be the first thing that you think of when you hear fairy tale.  I just couldn't help but finally use this stamp.
The yellow paper is embossed with the brick Tim Holtz folder.  The shoes are covered in red glitter and I used red metallic thread wrapped around the background.

Knock, Knock!
Don't you just adore my little door?  It is from our generous February Sponsor Stampotique.
It is called Welcome Door and you can find it here.

I started with my door and looked for a box just the right size.  I had an old supply of unused Cosmo Cricket cigar boxes that were perfect.  I traced the door and cut the shape out of the chipboard cigar box.  Then I painted the sides and edges with acrylic paint.  The wood floor is from some bowling lane paper I had in my stash.  The "wallpaper" is K & Company.
That brings us to the frames.  The metal frames are from K & Company.  The little Alice pictures inside were from a post card kit I had used on a project about a year ago.  I cut the pictures to fit the frames and them filled them in with glossy accent to make glass.
Peek - a - Boo
It's Alice in her crazy world on the other side of the door.
I painted the inside black for drama.  The paper on the back wall is hand made by me last summer.  It is a leaf print made with dyes with a little pearl added in.  Then a few stickles swirls and dots and some psychedelic glitter mushrooms for sparkle.  Alice is popped up on piggy tales springs (wish you could still get them).

The challenge this month is to use a door or doors, and preferably for the door or doors to open and close so we can see what lays beyond! While it is not required that your project include Alice in Wonderland, we do encourage it. If your project does feature Wonderland you will get two chances in the prize drawing instead of one!

Some Miscellaneous

Nothing crafty today, just some miscellaneous.  This weekend my 5 year old and I went to a program at her school about Minnesota children's authors and illustrators.  We had a great time listening to stories and making crafts.  We meet illustrator Mike Wohnautka in our last session.  He did the illustrations for the book Can't Sleep Without Sheep.  He also illustrated one of our favorite books The Twelve Days of Christmas in Minnesota.
He told the kids about drawing and how he starts a book.  He drew this picture and gave it to Pea.  How perfect, a pig tailed girl with a pig flying over her bed. (Pea LOVES pigs.)  It was meant to be.  We ran out to Micheals and got a poster frame for her room.

One last miscellaneous thing.  Look what I won from Copic.

Now I have to decide what to stick it on.

Come back tomorrow for the next challenge from Pixie Dust Studio.
