The Altered Alice CHAPTER 5 Challenge - Week 4: Celebrate Mad Hatter Day with a MAD TEA PARTY, Altered Alice Style!

Join Us for a MAD TEA PARTY!

There are two Mad Hatter Days every year, and one of them is this month! In the United States, October 6th is Mad Hatter Day as we abbreviate our dates as month/day. In the United Kingdom, Mad Hatter Day is June 10th as they abbreviate their dates as day/month. So what do these dates have to do with the Mad Hatter? In the original Tenniel illustrations, the Mad Hatter has a price tag tucked into his hat band. It says "In this Style 10/6" which, for us ingnorant Yankees means ten schillings and sixpence, or half a guineau back in Alice's day! So Mad Hatter Day falls on 10/6, and here at The Altered Alice, instead of choosing between date systems, we just celebrate twice a year!!!
We LOVE The Artistic Stamper!

Our generous sponsor this month is The Artistic Stamper, and they are offering a £15 pound voucher for The Artistic Stamper stamps! They have a WONDERFUL online store that offers free worldwide shipping on orders over £35 and they carry loads of my favorite brands. The Artistic Stamper Creative Team Blog offers amazing inspiration and interesting challenges, so be sure to visit! Jennie has kindly provided our design team with the Mabel Lucie Attwell Mad Hatter Stamp for our projects this month. It will be interesting to see how everyone applies their own style and vision to the same image!
The challenge this month is to create a project to celebrate the Mad Hatter, AND to bring something to our Mad Tea Party! Here are the design team's party contributions:

So find something fun to bring to our Mad Tea Party, and show & tell when you link your project that celebrates the Mad Hatter! You have until Friday, June 24 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -4:00) and we'll announce the winner of the £15 voucher for The Artistic Stamper stamps on Sunday, June 26! And Happy Mad Hatter Day from The Altered Alice!

Pixie Dust Studio New Release: Steampunk

It's Steampunk RELEASE DAY!

Pop over to the Pixie Dust Studio shop to grab yours!
For my card I used the sketch from the Card Patterns Sketch 120 challenge.  I matched my colors up from my designer paper (Imaginisce Aminal Crackers).  I did a little paper piecing on the balloon and colored with Copic markers.  It had a floating in the middle of nothing feel so I added the clouds (A Muse) to anchor the image.  The popped up banner is from a Riley moose stamp on pink cardstock.  I added a little shadow using Copics then tied it to the balloon with twine.  The border punch is Martha.

The challenge this month is to create a project to celebrate the Mad Hatter, AND to bring something to our Mad Tea Party! Here are the design team's party contributions:
Here is my hat I'm bringing to the party.
I found the template for my hat at the Little Potato House, it's actually a graduation hat turned upside down.   I printed the template out on cream cardstock.  Then I covered it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Barn Door, Wild Honey, and Chipped Sapphire and stamped the Artistic Stamper image in archival ink.  Next I cut it out and assembled the hat.
I used black lace as the sash and bow.  I cover my 10/6 tag with with distress ink and used rub-on numbers.  I picked out 3 pins to add but didn't like that two were pearl so I painted the pearls on the one pin gold.
On the other side I added a feather and rhinestone button.
So there you have it, one mad hatter hat box.

The Magic of Oz

I almost passed out when I say an email from Ellen Hustson today.  How did I not know that Graphic 45 was coming out with Wizard of Oz?  I must have it all!  You can drool over it here.  Maybe I need to run into Archivers just to see if they have it in yet.

Pixie Dust Studio Challenge - "Homemade Sweet Homemade"

Happy Thursday Pixie Friends :)

It's time for a new challenge this week!

This week's challenge is to create all of your embellies yourself!

Homemade embellies only, please :)

My image is my embellishment on this card.  I started with 2 copies of the image.  I colored the dog and his pin of one, and everything but what is inside the frame of the window on the other.  Cut out the window area with an exacto knife.  Then replaced the paper with acetate.  I used a Sharpie paint marker with extra fine point to write SALE.  Then used foam tape around the window.  I made my shredded news paper out of a tiny newsprint from the Tim Holtz Paper Stash pad.  Then add the puppy for the back side of the "box" with the shredded paper inside.

The sketch is from Card Patterns Sketch 117 challenge.
Copic:  YR04, 07, 09
B12, 14, 21, 23, 37, 39
