Bad Blogger

I know I've been a bad, bad, blogger lately.  I've had a just a few things going on.  Here is the first hint:
Can you guess what I'm packing for?
Yes, I color coordinate P's clothes to match my scrapbook paper!  Yes, I'm OCD!
I promise to be a better blogger when we return.

Finished a hat for P.
Next I will be taking a mitten class at The Twisted Loop.  Can't wait!

The Altered Alice: Week 4 - Chapter 13 Challenge: The Best Butter!

"The Hatter was the first to break the silence. `What day of the month is it?' he said, turning to Alice: he had taken his watch out of his pocket, and was looking at it uneasily, shaking it every now and then, and holding it to his ear.
Alice considered a little, and then said `The fourth.'
`Two days wrong!' sighed the Hatter. `I told you butter wouldn't suit the works!' he added looking angrily at the March Hare.
`It was the BEST butter,' the March Hare meekly replied.
`Yes, but some crumbs must have got in as well,' the Hatter grumbled: `you shouldn't have put it in with the bread-knife.'
The March Hare took the watch and looked at it gloomily: then he dipped it into his cup of tea, and looked at it again: but he could think of nothing better to say than his first remark, `It was the BEST butter, you know.'"
--Chapter 7; Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

For the month of March, how could we resist a challenge honoring the March Hare? We are challenging you to use "the best butter," as in butter yellow!

Our sponsor, Red Eowyn, is offering a one sheet of Alice in Wonderland stamps to the randomly selected winner of this month's challenge! The March Hare is the owner and illustrator's favorite Alice character, so of course we had to do her challenge in March. Red Eowyn has beautifully cleaned up the original Tenniel illustrations to make truly clear images that are a delight to stamp. The unmounted sheets include a variety of fun Alice sentiments, so be sure to check them out. In addition to Alice stamps, Red Eowyn also has wonderfully realistic animal stamps and some amazing dragons in the Fantasy category! Free U.S. shipping is included.

You have until Friday, March 23 to show us your best butter! Entries that feature Wonderland will be given two chances at the random drawing instead of one. Multiple entries are allowed but each must be on a separate post. Enter here.

My first knitted creation

I've been taking a knitting class with some other moms from my daughters school.  It was so much fun.  We took it at Twisted Loop Yarn Shop in Prior Lake at the library.  The owner Jennie is wonderful, fun, and so helpful!  This was a 3 part class, 2 hours per class.  I used alpaca yarn and it's SOOO soft.  I've already started another to practice my skills.
I used P as my model but it is an adult size hat.
Love the swirl design on top.

We have been busy baking for St. Patty's Day.  Lucky Cupcakes and Irish Cream Chocolate Cheesecake.

Have a great St. Patty's Day!

Scrapbook Page - 1st Field Trip

This page made me feel so behind on my scraping.  This is from P's first year of pre-school.  She looks so little in the pictures.  Now she's a big bad kindergartener with the attitude to match!

First the page from the magazine.

Here is my take on it.
Quick and simple to make.

What do you need when you've overindulged at a Mad Tea Party?
A Mad Hangover Kit!
Sentiment reads "I do with I hadn't drunk quite so much!"

So here is how my hangover kit came to be.
First I started with a wooden box I found in the $1 spot at Michaels.
I painted it with Banana Making Memories paint.  Then I stamped the image on tissue paper using
 Staz-On in brown.
Then cut the image out of the tissue paper.  Carefully adhere with Mod Podge (it tears very early when wet).
I also added the sentiment to the inside and back, and a canvas pattern to the sides with the same method.
Once dry its time to color.  I experimented with a few different products for this.
First I tried Distress Ink (on straw on the hares head and top hat).  I don't recommend this with Mod Podge, it never really dries and I ended up rubbing off areas and had some spots appear in the finish.
Next I used Peerless Transparent Water Colors.  LOVED these, the colors are so vibrant and have a shimmer to them.  I used Japonica Scarlet (red dots on hares jacket, hat band, pants patch), Dark Green (hatters jacket), and Sky Blue (hares jacket).
The Hatter's bow tie is Tangerine India Ink.  It also painted on well.
Last was Inka Gold in Silver for the tea pot.  I'm not crazy about the way it turned out.
I painted the inside of the box with the Dark Green Peerless.  The edges are covered with decorative tape.
I added more brushes of the Banana paint to the sides.
So what do you put in a hangover kit?
  1. Crackers
  2. Mouth Wash
  3. Tylenol
  4. Breath Mints
  5. Antacids
So why not hop on over to the Altered Alice and see what inspiration awaits you!

Scrapbook Page - Coloring Easter Eggs

If you have been a scrapbooker for long you probably are like me and have some subjects or holidays you hate to scrap.  Mine are Christmas, Birthdays, and Easter.  I much prefer to scrap some everyday event or a picture about nothing in particular.  When I received my bi-monthly haul of scrapbooking magazines in the mail I spotted this layout in Scrapbooks Etc April 2012 issue.
Finally a Easter page I like!  So here is my case of that page.
