A little decorating

Here is what I've been up to instead of crafting.  The summer crazy has already started at our house.  Relatives coming and going, time outside getting the yard ready, and my favorite thing garage sale season.  Not much crafting has been going on here, but I have been busy doing some decorating.

We hit the farmers market and have the front porch all ready for the season. I used a red, yellow, white, and green theme this year.  I have had the chair forever.  It used to be white and sat in my childhood bedroom.  We painted it yellow a few years ago.  The yellow enamel bowl is a yard sale find ($1).  I won the iron heart plant hanger last year at Dan Patch Days.  I also have a three tiered red wire basket to hang from the ceiling, just have to get hubby to put the hook up for me.

I used some of my favorite tin trays for wall art.  You can always find them cheep (around $2) at junk markets.  I just punch holes in the edge with the Big Bite and thread ribbon through them.

The little glass jar on the table I found at a junk market.  It was missing it's lid, but perfect for a flower pot.  The little yellow trimmed linen napkin is a yard sale find (.50).  The little green watering can is a junk market find.  I always have basil in the yellow pot.  I love to get a really good tomato and some fresh mozzarella and make caprese salad in the summer.

I had this yellow wire egg basket and put a flower pot inside.  The little green boots are grown cat grass for Puss.
I found this red wagon "box" at the junk market.  I love the graphic on it.  I have a collection of old faucet knobs in it.  I just need about 25 more to make it look right.  Anybody have any of these lying around, send them my way.

Here is another project.  I've had this done for some time now, I just never got around to posting pictures.
The original idea for this project came from the Bachman Fall 2010 House.
Here is the inspiration picture for the house.

My mom found large chair at a church sale.  They aren't the easiest to find.  I had it for over a year before I ran across a child's size one at the junk market.  I took it as a sign.  I took them both to my local glass and mirror cutter and they made templates and cut the mirror for me.  This isn't the cheapest thing in the world, about $25 each.  They gave me the special glue to use and I glued the mirrors in myself.  They are in the stairwell on the top floor.

Before

Next project is stripping a garage sale find shelf that looks to have about 10 coats of paint on it.  Wish me luck!

The Altered Alice: Chapter 15 - Week 4 - Any Way You Go Will Get You Somewhere!

Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
`That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Cat.
`I don't much care where--' said Alice.
`Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.
`--so long as I get SOMEWHERE,' Alice added as an explanation.
`Oh, you're sure to do that,' said the Cat, `if you only walk long enough.'

My Project
I started with a old copy of Alice in Wonderland I found at a thrift store. I love the old graphics in these books.

Once I decided on Humpty Dumpty I cut the chapter title page out of the book to move it to the front. Then I cut the whole to make my scene.  The background image of Humpty if from the Alice in Green Collage Sheet.  I used this image as my color inspiration. I used Modge Podge to adhere it and to glue the pages of the book together.
Every few pages I added the black Half-Round Dresden Borders or the vine border punch.  I colored
the stamped image of Humpty from the Alice's Adventures Rubber Stamp Set with Copic markers and aged him with distress ink.  The white rabbit that is peeking out at the scene is from the Alice Characters Collage Sheet.

I added lots of washi tape.
On the ribbons I have tied the Verdigris Rabbit Charm and a Chunky Little Bottle filled with green glitter and a Drink Me tag.

Mittens

I took another knitting class, this time it was mittens.  We made one mitten in class then you were on your own to finish its mate.  During my slow times at my yard sale I got it over half way done and finished it up last night.  I start another class this week.  This time something I don't have to wait for cold weather to use.  We are making a farmers market bag for all that fresh produce.  Can't wait!

My yard sale went well enough to pay for my new Nikon too; Happy Dance!!!

I finally made something!

I finally got a chance to craft this weekend.  My friend is having a baby and asked me to make her thank you notes for her.  Saturday I had a get together with some crafty friends and so I had some dedicated time to craft.  Here is what I made.
She asked for pink and brown and left the rest up to me, so I hope she likes them.

Wish me luck.  I'm having a yard sale the next 4 days and hope to make enough to cover the cost of a new camera.  I got the bad news that my Nikon D40 was fried by the salt water that Shamu splashed it with.  It was only 3 years old but the camera store talked like I was driving a 1971 Pinto.  Since it's "outdated" it seems like a better idea to replace instead of repair for over half what the camera cost to start with.  Nikon D5100 you will be mine!  Once this yard sale is over I hope to get back to crafting, but it seems that everyone else has plans for me lately.  Just a month until school is out and I will have no free time.  I'm still taking knitting classes and have finished 1 mitten.  I may have to cut my other hand off if I never finish second mitten.
